The Ministry of Nairobi Metropolitan Development was formed on 13th April, 2008 by presidential decree after the formation of the Grand Coalition Government. This was pursuant to achievement of the Vision 2030, Kenyas grand economic blueprint. Within this blueprint, the government identifies the need to improve the lives of all Kenyans as the supreme goal of the vision, through equitably distributing resources and development throughout the country, providing a framework for sustainable urbanization through providing capacity for urban and regional planning, provision of adequate housing for all, replacement of slums with affordable housing, improve and enhance proper infrastructure and sanitary facilities, among others.
