Nairobi Metro Clean Up Day

The ministry of Nairobi Metropolitan Development has set aside every third Saturday of every month during which the residents, visitors and investors within the Metro Region undertake the exercise of cleaning up their environment. The clean-up takes place in all the 15 Metro local authorities namely:

 

 

  1. City council of Nairobi
  2. Municipal Council of Mavoko
  3. Municipal Council of Machakos
  4. Municipal council of Kiambu
  5. Municipal council of  Ruiru
  6. Municipal Council of Thika
  7. Municipal Council of Limuru
  8. County council of Thika
  9. County Council of Kiambu
  10. County Council of Masaku
  11. County Council of Olkejuado
  12. Town Council of Kangundo
  13. Town Council of Karuri
  14. Town Council of Kikuyu
  15. Town Council of Kajiado

The metro clean up day was officially launched on September, 19th 2009 by the minister for Nairobi Metropolitan Development, Hon. Robinson Njeru Githae at a clean-up exercise held at Eastleigh, Nairobi. Subsequent clean-up exercises led by Hon. Githae and Permanent Secretary Arch. Philip Sika have been held in Machakos Municipal Council, Kikuyu Town council, Thika municipal Council and Kangundo Town Council. Environmental sustainability is a key millennium development goal and also one of the major components of the Nairobi Metropolitan Development strategy, Metro 2030.
